In a world of ‘free’ services, our data becomes the product. The Smart Home Center believes that what you do at home should stay at home. Therefore we ensure that all devices we install are able to talk to each other using only your home’s internal network. Any device that tries to ‘phone home’ will be blocked from accessing the internet. This way device manufactures won’t be able to sell your information to third parties, and more importantly, hackers will never be able to steal your information if they compromise the manufacturers’ systems.
Clear Skies Ahead
Almost every Smart Product on the market comes with its own ‘cloud’. This allows devices to communicate with a server on the internet in order to send and receive commands based on your desires. However with the huge number of different companies out there comes a huge amount of different clouds. This means that a typical smart home uses around 10% of its internet connection to simply keep all its smart devices operational.
The Smart Home Center believes that this should not be the case. We select devices that are able to be controlled from within a local network without any need for them to phone home. This way, devices are not solely dependent on any cloud, and your home is freed from any corporate dependencies.
Open source: Transparent, Future proof and limitless
The Smart Home Center runs Home Assistant at its core, which is an open source software developed by the online community. This means that all the code written behind the software is open to anyone to view (and even contribute to). What this ensures is that it is impossible for ‘bad actors’ to insert any malicious code or ‘back doors’ into your software, as the community of experts would immediately spot such attempts and not allow the code into any version of Home Assistant.
As a consumer this means you can be safe in the knowledge that the software running in your home is doing exactly what it is designed to do - run your home.
As a supplier this means that at the Smart Home Center we can also be safe in the knowledge that any functionality is possible. So if one of our customers has a requirement that has never been thought of by the community before, we are able to write the code to make it happen. Perhaps if the community like it enough it would even make it into the latest version of Home Assistant for the whole world to benefit. Such is the beautiful nature of Open Source software.

Many Smart Home Companies are only able to install their products into newly built or renovated properties. This is because the technology they use often requires heavy and complex wiring to be installed behind the walls, under the floors and in the ceilings in order to connect all the devices together.
The Smart Home Center is different. We offer solutions for every home, no mater what age, and do not require access to the ‘guts’ of a property. Using wireless technology, the majority of our offerings can simply be installed and configured on site. In fact, most of our devices are so small that you won’t even notice they are there.
